Stone Crusher Returns to Charlotte to Start 2013
The 2012 season brought a lot of great success to the Stone Crusher team, with many great stops across the country, but Charlotte was a special place for them last year. Across two different weekends and five events the team picked up 7 wins. It’s safe to say that Stone Crusher was the king of the monster trucks in the “Queen City” for 2012, and what better place to start 2013 than Charlotte.
Steve Sims and the Stone Crusher got off to a great start to the new year at the Time Warner Cable Arena. Sims was strong right from the start on Friday night, opening up with second place finishes in both racing and wheelies, before picking up his first win of the year in freestyle. The following afternoon Sims continued his winning ways as he picked up the wheelie contest victory, along with a second place finish in freestyle. Saturday night would be the final event of the weekend and the Stone Crusher would once again find the winners circle, knocking out Gary Porter and Grave Digger for the racing victory. Sims tried to add one more win but came up just shy of the victory in freestyle with a second place run.
With the first weekend in the books, the Stone Crusher team is set to head south for three straight weeks in Florida, and the first of two events at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium. Hometown Hero Stone Crusher Soars in Hampton
As the 2012 season draws closer to an end, it was time for one final hometown event to end the year for the Stone Crusher team as they made the quick trip up to Hampton, Virginia for a two show weekend at the Hampton Coliseum. With just one final chance to let it all hang out before the 2013 season, driver Steve Sims did just that all weekend long inside the Stone Crusher, thrilling fans in a fashion they’ve come to know and love from their local superstar. Sims dominated the wheelie contests, sweeping the weekend with two victories as he stood the truck straight up and down beautifully. While wheelies worked out in his favor, racing just didn’t seem to go his way as Sims was narrowly defeated both nights in a row in round one. Looking for some redemption after the early exits in racing, Sims unleashed the Stone Crusher with two stellar freestyle performances. Despite the small floor size, Sims was getting incredible, stadium event sized air as he flew the Stone Crusher across the floor. The ferocious onslaught on the track brought the crowd to their feet each night as Sims tore across the floor with a blistering pace, attacking every obstacle from every angle imaginable. While the judges may not have awarded him the victor, the hometown crowd in Hampton saluted their driver each night with roaring applause.
Now with the season in the books, the team will begin preparations for 2013 as they tear the trucks down and rebuild them better and stronger for next years. Big thanks going out to all of our crew and sponsors for their dedication throughout the year. Stay tuned for an updated schedule to see where we’re headed in the new year!
