The 2013 Monster Jam World Finals presented by NGK Spark Plugs would mark the sixth year in a row the Stone Crusher Monster Truck team would be invited to compete on Monster Jam’s premiere event to cap off the winter season. With 28 trucks in the field, it would be tough competition for Steve Sims and crew, but their track record at Sam Boyd Stadium has been strong over the past five years with one of the highest average freestyle scores. The long week of action kicked off Wednesday afternoon for practice where drivers got their first chance to drive the tricky racing course. Sims was solid throughout the day putting up times in the middle of the field, building towards qualifying on Friday night. By the third pass on Friday Sims got into the groove and put up a competitive time of 17.109 . Saturday arrived and after a long afternoon signing autographs for Monster Jam’s most dedicated fans, it was showtime. Round one matched Sims and the Stone Crusher against Scooby Doo, with Stone Crusher taking the victory to move onto round two. In round two, Sims was able to advance over Captain’s Curse and into round three. Sims’ night of racing would end there after falling short to El Toro Loco.
Las Vegas has been the site of some of the most memorable Stone Crusher freestyles and this one would be no different. With the pressure on at the biggest stage in the sport, Sims came up huge with a stellar freestyle run on the challenging freestyle course. Sims didn’t shy away from anything on the floor, attacking the obstacles and soaring the Stone Crusher throughout the run. Big air, and big saves highlighted the run as Sims pushed the Stone Crusher to the absolute limit time and time again. After pound on the truck for over two minutes, the scores were in and the truck lost rear wheel drive, but it didn’t matter to Sims as he continued to thrill the crowd in Vegas with even more impressive moves. When the truck finally came to a stop the crowd roared with appreciation for the run. The judges awarded a score of 27 which would be good enough for fourth place overall against the toughest competition all year.
Thanks go out to everyone for their support. Our incredible crew for their dedication and hard work all winter long, to the sponsors who help us do what we do, and of course all our loyal fans around the world, thanks again!
