For the final time of first quarter Steve Sims and the Stone Crusher Monster Truck team would visit the sunshine state of Florida as they traveled down to Jacksonville, Florida. The annual event is one of the largest on the Monster Jam tour as nearly 73,000 fans pack the seats of Everbank Field to see the world’s best. The day started off nicely with clear blue skies during the pit party and good weather held out for the beginning of the event. After a solid qualifying effort Sims and Stone Crusher faced off again Razin Kane, as they picked up the victory over the hometown truck. Round two matched Sims against the red hot Ryan Anderson and Son-Uva Digger. It would be a tight battle, with Sims take a wide and fast approach to the turns, but a bad bounce following the second jump on the Chicago style course would make the difference, handing the win to Anderson by a narrow margin.
Freestyle has been where Sims has excelled in 2013 with multiple arena freestyle wins and a few high placing major stadium freestyle’s as well. Unfortunately shortly after freestyle began a heavy downpour moved in and drenched Jacksonville. The event was placed under a rain delay for around 45 minutes before the on track action could continue. Due to the massive delay officials made the decision to cut down on the number of trucks in the competition for the sake of getting in a majority of the show before another storm system arrived, Sims and the Stone Crusher would be unable to compete in the freestyle portion of the event.
With February coming to a close the Stone Crusher Monster Truck team is returning back to Virginia for the week as they visit the state capital of Richmond for a three show weekend at the Richmond Coliseum.
