The 2013 season has been off to a great start for the Stone Crusher Monster Truck team, and after several weeks on the road the team got a welcome trip home to visit the Hampton Coliseum for another great weekend in front of some of the most die-hard and loyal Stone Crusher fans. Driver Steve Sims always cranks it up a notch when he gets a chance to compete close to home and the crew was excited for the local event. Friday night didn’t start how they had hoped, after transmission problems sidelined the truck from the wheelie and racing competitions. Determined, the crew battled back to replace the transmission and get the Stone Crusher back into action for freestyle where Sims put the truck in the air and the winners circle with a victorious freestyle. Overnight the crew faced a tough task in making sure not only Stone Crusher was ready to go for two events the next day, but they prepped a back up truck to run as Hooked after engine problems would sideline their normal teammate truck. With little time to spare they had both trucks ready and their efforts paid off with great performances from both trucks.
Sims picked up right where he left off the night before as he snatched the wheelie competition win with a pair of great wheelstands. In freestyle, he soared the Stone Crusher all over the track, wowing the legions of Stone Crusher fans that packed the Hampton Coliseum. Regulation time ran out, but that didn’t stop Sims as he kept going for all the awesome spectators in attendance. The run was good enough for yet another freestyle win. Saturday night started off strong once again as Sims put the truck into third place in the wheelie competition as he willed the truck to getting vertical with the already flattened cars. In racing Sims found himself in a very special position, racing against his oldest son Steven and Hooked in the final round. The Young Gun Steven would be victorious this time as he edged out his father for the win. It was one race he didn’t mind losing, even though he gave it his all to take the win.
In freestyle Sims tried to go for the weekend sweep against a tough field of competitors. As he pulled onto the track the current leader was his son Steven and Hooked, but the lead didn’t last for long as dad put together another stellar freestyle performance. With plenty of big air hits over the obstacles, and some great sky wheelies over the backside of the “Jack Rabbit” jump in the middle of the floor. Unfortunately his bid for the weekend sweep would be just one point short against former two time freestyle champion Avenger.
All in all it was a great weekend for the Stone Crusher team as they picked up multiple wins and had a great time at home.
