With two months already down in the calender the Stone Crusher team started off the month of March in the state of Florida, as both Stone Crusher’s would be competing in different parts of the state. Steve Sims would have his Stone Crusher at Jacksonville’s Everbank Stadium, while Morgan Kane would pilot the other Stone Crusher in Pensacola for three Thunder Nationals events.
Steve Sims and the Stone Crusher have been a regular visitor to Jacksonville and the team was ready to perform in front of 70,000 of Monster Jam’s most die-hard fans. Sims night in racing was cut short after a first round loss to Mohawk Warrior. Following racing during intermission, it was announced that Sims and the Stone Crusher team were once again invited to compete in this year’s Monster Jam World Finals in Las Vegas. With the invite flag flying on the back of the truck, Sims and the Stone Crusher took to the track in freestyle and showed the fans why they were returning to Vegas with a great run. Sims flew around the track with plenty of the usual big air, taking a few tough landings and bounces along the way. With bonus time winding down Sims hit a van stack crooked and couldn’t recover, sending the Stone Crusher over and onto its roof. Sims and the Stone Crusher were fine and the World Finals flag was still on as the truck was uprighted. The run would score a 23 and be good enough for fourth place in freestyle.
In Pensacola, Morgan Kane and the second Stone Crusher were on the top of their game as they opened up the weekend on Friday night. Kane dominated on Friday, picking up wins in the wheelie, racing, and freestyle competitions. Kane nearly had all four wins but came up just one point shy in the donut contest. Following a stellar start Friday night, Saturday afternoon didn’t quite go the way Kane and crew chief Gary Wiggins had hoped it would. Following a third place finish in the wheelie contest, the Stone Crusher lost oil pressure in the engine. Despite their best efforts, the truck was done for the afternoon event, but they would return for the final event in the evening. They bounced back with a strong showing, ending the night with their second freestyle victory of the weekend.
