It was the first weekend of an all new season and the Stone Crusher team was out in full force for opening weekend. Steve Sims and company made the trk up to Rochester, New York’s Blue Cross Arena for three days, and three shows of Thunder Nationals. Meanwhile, Morgan Kane would make his Stone Crusher debut in an all new truck at Evansville, Indiana’s Ford Center for 3 Monster Jam events in two days.
On Friday night Sims put in a good overall performance, including a second place in the donut contest to Tom Meents and Maximum Destruction. Despite some steering issues, Kane was able to deliver a solid performance with a semi-finals appearance in racing and fourth place in freestyle.
There were no signs of any issues for Kane and Stone Crusher on Saturday afternoon however, as they were the team to beat for the afternoon performance. Kane used both skill and luck to make it into the finals, beating High Maitenance in the first round, and was able to advance to the finals after Iron Outlaw suffered breakage and would be unable to continue. Kane took advantage of the second chance and was able to pick up the racing victory over former teammate Darren Migues and Bounty Hunter. Fresh of the racing win, Kane continued his winning ways by picking up the freestyle victory with a great run, earning his first career double down. The evening event saw another strong performance out of Kane to wrap up a great opening weekend in the new truck.
Meanwhile, Sims was on his game in Rochester putting together a great showing of his own. Sims started off the night with the first win of his season, picking up the wheelie contest honors. In freestyle Sims carried on his momentum with a great performance, finishing second in scoring. For the third and final performance Sunday, Sims delivered again in freestyle with another great performance earning another runner up finish.
