Last week marked one of the favorite stops on the Stone Crusher team’s calendar, the annual Back to School Monster Truck Bash at the Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway. With the always interesting crossover racing course and plenty of big freestyle obstacles the event is always a fun time for fan and drivers alike. This year would be no different as Steve Sims and the Stone Crusher team aimed for victory after going winless the past two years in Charlotte.
The night started off well enough for Sims as he piloted the Stone Crusher two a third place qualifying result behind Heavy Hitter and Bigfoot. His first round match up would be against Jim Koehler and the Avenger. The two went head to head in an exciting race on the tricky track, but it would be Sims and the Stone Crusher coming out on top in round one. Unfortunately for the Stone Crusher team, the truck suffered a failure in the rear brakes during the race. Despite the crews best efforts they wouldn’t be able to get the truck repaired in enough time for the next race, ending their racing efforts early.
While racing didn’t play out like the team hoped, there was still a freestyle trophy left to claim and the Stone Crusher was fully repaired and ready for action. Sims wasted no time getting off to a strong start in freestyle with a massive sky wheelie over the backside of the FMX landing ramp. The back of the chassis slammed into the dirt with a hard hit but it didn’t stop Sims and the Stone Crusher. They battled onward with some more big air over the bus stacks and plenty of crossthreads over the freestyle obstacles. Their performance was good enough to take the lead with a score of 28 and two trucks remaining. After watching his son Steven and Hooked, as well as Koehler and Avenger come up short the freestyle trophy was going back to the Stone Crusher for the first time since 2012.
A big thanks to our crew as always for their hard work and dedication. Also thanks to all our great fans for the many years of support.
