The first three rounds of the Monster Jam Fox Sports 1 Championship Series have brought their own sets of challenges to the Stone Crusher Monster Truck team, but in their first ever visit to Indianapolis Steve Sims were able to get their first point in the standings for 2015.After an otherwise solid outing in Tampa, the team made the trip west to Indianapolis for their first ever visit to Lucas Oil Stadium for the fourth stop on the Monster Jam Fox Sports 1 Championship Series. Crew chief Tommy Powers had his hands full after Hooked took some heavy damage last weekend, but he proved why he’s one of the best in the business as both trucks were ready for action Saturday. In Qualifying Sims had a solid performance and would qualify 10th overall. With breakage in the top 8 qualifiers Sims was nearly brought into the racing bracket after their was concern two trucks weren’t going to make the call, but one was able to return which would make Sims the final competitor in the Obstacle Course challenge. After watching his competitors before him, Sims saw where he could make up time on the others, and did just that as he took the victory by nearly a full second over Thunder 4×4 and Hooked. The victory gave Sims and Stone Crusher their first Championship point on the season.
After picking up the point in Obstacle Course, it was on to freestyle where the floor was covered with jumps for the Stone Crusher to tackle. Sims put together a good run with some nice air throughout regulation and bonus time, despite a fuel pick up issue. His performance would be good enough for a strong 8th place overall in freestyle on the night. Overall it was a good weekend in Indianapolis and they’ll be looking to perform even better next weekend in St. Louis. Be sure to catch us on Fox Sports 1 when Monster Jam airs next Sunday February 1st with Tampa airing at 11:00am EST/8:00am PST and Indianapolis at 12:00pm EST/9:00am PST.
