The annual Monsters On The Beach is one of the Stone Crusher team’s favorite stops of the year. The unique event on the Oceanfront of their hometown of Virginia Beach is always a special occasion for everyone on the team, and this year would be no different. Driver Steve Sims always wants perform his best for his local fans and supporters, and with the new George Carpenter Cup trophy up for grabs to the winner of the King of the Beach title, Sims pushed the Stone Crusher to the limit all weekend long in an attempt to win the title.
The title chase began Friday night in impressive fashion, as Sims opened up the weekend with a spectacular pair of wheelies to take the wheelie contest. Sims looked to pick up some more points in racing, but was taken out of round one by teammate Bryan Wright and Monster Magic. That didn’t fan the fire for Sims though, as he came back in freestyle with a fantastic performance to win the competition.
Before the action got underway Saturday afternoon, the Stone Crusher team was apart of a special moment for one couple, as they got married in the back of the Stone Crusher ride truck in front of thousands of on lookers. Following the wedding, Sims wasted no time at all racking up another win on the weekend by picking up a second wheelie contest victory. After an early exit in racing last night, Sims had better luck the next day as he put the Stone Crusher into the final round coming up just shy of the win to Bigfoot.
Another special moment took place between rounds of racing when the Monster Trucks Unlimited team unveiled their latest addition, Hooked, driven by none other than Steven Sims. With the tarp pulled off, father Steve cut his 18 year old son loose for an exhibition freestyle run. Steven showed the crowd he was a natural right away, as he soared the truck over the course like a seasoned veteran.
Coming into the final event of the weekend, Sims and Stone Crusher held a slim lead with a 3 point margin over Bigfoot. Sims looked to put some distance between himself and Bigfoot with another wheelie victory, and he did so with an incredible past vertical wheelie that ended with the Stone Crusher on its side. Unfortunately the team encountered electrical problems following the wheelie contest and were unable to make the call for round one of racing. This would spell the end for Sims’ chance at getting the King of the Beach title but he still had one competition remaining, and that was freestyle. Sims went on an all out assault of the course as he launched the Stone Crusher over and over again for over three minutes. Body panels were flying everywhere, but it wasn’t stopping Sims as he attacked everything at his disposal, whether it was the buses, cars, or the center hill. When the truck finally game to a stop, there was no question that Sims had won freestyle.
