This weekend the entire Stone Crusher team was rocking both ends of the East Coast, as Steve Sims was in Hartford, Connecticut, while Morgan Kane was in Columbia, South Carolina. Each driver had three shows on the weekend to thrill Monster Jam fans and did just that all weekend.
In Columbia, Kane encountered some troubles on Friday night when the transmission lost first gear in racing, but Kane powered through freestyle respectably given the problems. Following the show, he and crew chief Gary Wiggins did a transmission swap to be ready for the next two shows on Saturday. They rebounded in impressive fashion, coming out and doubling down in the afternoon show, taking both the racing and freestyle competitions. Kane followed up his performance in the afternoon, with another strong showing in the night’s action, starting off with a wheelie contest win. In racing, Kane worked his way into the finals, coming just short of the win. To finish out the weekend, Kane turned in another good freestyle run to finish third overall, finishing on a high note.
While Kane was tearing up the track in Columbia, Steve Sims was turning heads with his Stone Crusher in Hartford, starting on Saturday afternoon as he took out Randy Brown and Grave Digger for the racing victory. Sims looked for a Double Down of his own in freestyle and nearly pulled off the feat, finishing second in freestyle. The night Sims was able to pick up the freestyle win that had eluded him ealier in the day, as he bested the field to claim the freestyle victory. On Sunday, Sims and the Stone Crusher were unable to claim any victories, but it wasn’t for lack of effort. In racing Sims was once again in the finals, only to be taken out by teammate Bryan Wright and Monster Magic for his first ever racing win. In freestyle, Sims gave it all he had during his run, finishing in second for the final freestyle of the weekend.
With the winter season over halfway over, 2012 has been great so far for the Stone Crusher team and they look to keep rocking this weekend. Steve Sims will be in Worcester, Massachusetts for the weekend, with four Monster Jam events at the DCU Center. Morgan Kane gets to enjoy some home cooking, as they’ll be just a short trip up the road in Hampton, Virginia for three shows in front of the hometown crowd.
