-Steve Sims stepped into the monster truck industry in 2005 when he created the Stone Crusher monster truck. Sims owns and operates the Custom Stone Company, specializing in marble and granite products. When Grave Digger driver Dennis Anderson came to Sims for some custom counter tops, Sims made a barter deal.”I told Dennis that I’d do the counter tops for him if he came with the Grave Digger to our house and did a birthday party for our kids, and the rest is history,” said Sims. |
Sims had always been very interested in monster trucks, and he decided it was time to get into the industry. When Sims began, he had one goal in mind–own one of the top monster trucks on the circuit. He started with top-notch equipment to keep the truck performing at its best. Broken parts didn’t matter as long as the truck never got booed at an event. This winning, anything-goes attitude sparked a quick rise through the ranks at events throughout the country, with Stone Crusher and teammate truck Mopar Magic winning many events and gaining legions of fans. |
In just five years, Sims has become one of the elite drivers in the monster truck industry, competing regularly on the biggest stages in the sport. In 2010, he was invited for the third straight year to compete in the Monster Jam World Finals in Las Vegas, thrilling fans with a fourth-place finish in freestyle, his best yet. Strong performances like this brought Sims’ team, Monster Trucks Unlimited, back-to-back Monster Jam Team of the Year awards in 2008 and 2009 at the Monster Jam awards banquet in Las Vegas, solidifying their status as one of the top teams in the sport.
“We’ve always done this for fun and enjoyed ourselves doing it,” says Sims. “We have a great team, and I can’t wait for what the future holds for us.” |
